Towards Trilingualism
On the 21stof January, President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared 2012 as the Year for a Trilingual Sri Lanka, where a program to encourage Sri Lankans to learn all three languages-Tamil, Sinhala and English was launched and A 10 – year national Plan for a Trilingual Sri Lanka was released which presents a national initiative to encourage the acquisition of trilingual skills and competencies.
Seven months down the line-we take a look at how much of the program has been successful, the challenges and how the private sector – whether it be for national or purely business goals are becoming more conscious of being trilingual.
