FUTA’s Long March for Free Education
The FUTA- the Federation of University Teachers Associations launched trade union action on the 4th of July 2012, when their demands that included the 6 % allocation of the GDP for education went unheeded.
Since then, FUTA representatives have met with Min. Basil Rajapakse and other senior government officials, as they continue to pursue their objective.
This report is on the Long March – a significant event in the FUTA campaign, and one which saw widespread public support, despite efforts to disrupt and discredit the process.
